FIVE WORDS, ALL IN ORANGE... TICK!
by Cameron Irving
Cameron describes his performance as imagining "the seizure of an apartment belonging to a recently deceased, high profile, conceptual artist by a cultural heritage committee dedicated to conserving 'post-material' culture. The sorting process uncovers 'objects of outstanding cultural interest' including an artwork requiring an excess of specific criteria in order to preserve it.
Through parody and performance (and a pathological obsession with bureaucracy) the event will question the culture of preservation and its implications upon subsequent historical readings of contemporary art."
The artist is Joseph Kosuth and the artwork 'Five Words In Orange Neon'. Cameron followed his performance with an impromptu question and answers session, allowing the audience to question his motives and providing him an opportunity to elucidate his ideas on what was his first live performance. 'Five words, all in orange... tick!' was conceived at Miss Micks in the week leading up to it's presentation.
Cameron Irving is an artist living in London.
